In partnership with JATO Dynamics, we can share with you today separate rankings of the Top 10 best-selling vehicles for each U.S. State over the Full Year 2023. This data is exclusive to BSCB; you won’t find it anywhere else.
The methodology for this ranking is different from the monthly U.S. data we publish, with pickup variants counted separately – which makes a lot of sense as they are basically different vehicles altogether. This way, the Ford F-Series is split into F-150, F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty and up, the Chevrolet Silverado into 1500, 2500HD and up, Ram 1500, 2500 and up, etc.
Light Truck Dominance
51 of 52 states covered are won by light trucks vs. 48 in 2022 and 50 in 2021. The only state going to cars is Puerto Rico, where the Toyota Corolla is #1. This is compared with:
- 4 cars winning a state in 2022,
- 2 in 2021, 2019, and 2018,
- 4 in 2017,
- 6 in 2016,
- 8 in 2015, and
- 12 in 2014.
Vehicle Categories
- Pickups: 27 states chose pickups as their top-selling category, down slightly from 28 in 2022 and 30 in 2021.
- Crossovers: Crossovers gained popularity with 23 wins, up from 19 in both 2022 and 2021.
- Vans: A van claimed the top spot in one state, consistent with the previous two years.
